The Best Registry Repair Software For Windows 7

With Windows 7 becoming increasingly poplar, it's no wonder that a lot of people are trying to keep their new systems running smoothly with registry repair software. However, with so many of these tools available on the Internet, it's no wonder that it can be confusing to find the best one. Fortunately, we've been able to find a tool which works extremely well to repair the Windows 7 registry.

If you have been looking at these tools for long, you'll know that not all registry utilities are the same. In fact, some are down-right hideous, and can cause major damage if you use them on Windows 7. The problem is that many registry tools are created by amateur coders, and that leads them to be unreliable and ineffective. You need to get a good registry tool if you want to use it to help Windows 7.

The best registry repair software is the one which is able to do its job safely and reliably. All registry cleaners are designed to scan through a part of Windows called the 'registry', which is a database inside the operating system that stores the settings and information about your PC. The registry is where the likes of your desktop wallpaper and even your login details are kept, and registry tools basically scan through the database and fix any of the settings that are damaged and causing problems.

All registry tools are designed to scan through the registry and fix any of the errors that are in there. These errors can make your computer run extremely slowly and with errors, and are caused because of the way Windows works. Every time you use your PC, 100's of registry settings are being opened and edited to help with the smooth operation of Windows... but it's often the case that so many registry files are open that your system gets confused and saves them in the wrong way. This causes immense problems the next time your PC wants to read the files, as it means that it has to spend longer to de-scramble them.

Registry repair tools basically scan through the entire registry database and fix any files they think are corrupted. However, with Windows 7 being so new, many of these tools don't recognize a lot of the new settings it has inside. This makes them try and remove many "healthy" registry files, which leads Windows to run even worse. The best registry software is the one which is able to quickly find and fix the most *real* registry issues, without removing any other files in the process. And having tested a lot of the most popular registry cleaners on the Internet, we've found that one called "RegCure" works best on Windows 7

Do Windows Registry Repair Tools Actually Work

Most people seem to think that registry repair tools are hyped up and really not that necessary. However, the real fact is that if you have a Windows operating system then you need Windows registry repair tools to clear the registry of all unwanted entries.

How These Tools Help
Firstly, such repair tools work to streamline the performance of your computer. Basically, these know the difference between redundant and critical entries within the registry. By running such applications on your system you are able to easily prevent fragmentation of your registry.

What Does the Registry Comprise Of?
The registry is a complex array of all your computer settings. All preferences and settings pertaining to your hardware as well as software are all stored in the registry. As you continue using the computer, all of these settings continually change and are recorded in the registry. Right from the speed of your mouse to the kind of wallpaper you have on the desktop, every little detail is recorded in the registry.

How the Tools Work
The registry repairing tools work by cleaning the registry of all excess entries, which are redundant. These could be pertaining to programs and files, which have not been used in a long time, or pertaining to programs, which have already been deleted but still have residual entries lingering in the registry etc. Over a period of time, as you change, edit and delete files and programs, various entries get changed and accumulated inside the registry. These slow down your computer performance and result in a slow speed. If you wish to enhance the performance of your computer then registry repairing tools are essential.

Removal of Viruses
Another advantage of leveraging such repair tools is that you can protect your PC from vicious viruses. Most of the time, these viruses take refuge within the registry. Not cleaning up the registry and repairing it often can result in frequent errors as well as program crashes. These repair tools not only remove such viruses but also restore system points to their original configuration. This helps restore the computer to the stage before the damage occurred.

Backup Is Crucial
Any reputed registry repairing software will always allow for a backup of the registry to be taken. This way, incase any error happens and a genuine entry gets deleted, you can always undo the function and restore previous registry settings.

Scanning For Invalid Entries
All registry repair tools work by firstly scanning the computer to check for any obsolete or invalid entries inside the registry. These findings are then reported to you in a consolidated manner. You can then use these findings from the Windows registry repair tools to determine which entries you want deleted. After you have selected which entries need removal, the tool will compress and defragment the registry. Thus, once all the obsolete entries are removed, any leftover spaces are eliminated. This helps make the registry more compact and improves performance of your computer.

More Windows 7 corruption and repair woes

Recently, we've been seeing a noticeable increase with Windows 7 and "repair mode" which is launched automatically at boot time. During this latest increase, Windows 7 will launch the automatic repair, which when the user attempts to allow it to repair, ends up failing and results in a boot loop where the repair mode comes up and Windows cannot boot into the regular shell any longer.

I grabbed a Windows 7 DVD with these latest occurrences, and tried to get Windows to repair itself, hoping to avoid a lot of user downtime, and maybe try and identify the cause of this latest increase. I do know that it is not caused by Windows updates, as WSUS is used and no updates have been released recently to the organization. I do have to admit the repair tools are very easy to follow, all completely wizard-driven, however seldom have I seen them actually work or fix the problem at hand.

In the latest cases, I tried booting the PC in Safe Mode as well, hoping that I can get into Windows to look around at the event logs. However even with that, the PC reboots itself just before the Windows shell would come up.

So, for now we've been faced with re-imaging PCs to get users back up and running quickly. This is much faster than re-installing Windows manually or trying to diagnose the list of error codes provided by Microsoft's tools. If Microsoft's own repair tools could simply fix the issue, it would be a huge time-saver as the system could be fixed within minutes, rather than hours that it takes to re-image a system and archive and restore user data. The problem is, I've rarely seen the Microsoft repair tools actually fix anything.

Before Windows apologists can comment on this post, I will provide the steps taken to attempt the offline repair on one of the sample PCs with this latest issue, to demonstrate whole hearted attempts to use Microsoft's repair tools.

1. Boot the Windows 7 DVD.
2. Select English language, and click Next.
3. Click "Repair your computer".
4. The repair tool searches for Windows installations, and shows the one present on the system.
5. Select the option "Use recovery tools that can help fix problems starting Windows" and click Next.
6. Next there are 5 options displayed: Startup Repair, System Restore, System Image Recovery, Windows Memory Diagnostic, Command Prompt. Since the issue at hand is a boot issue, I selected "Startup Repair".
7. The recovery tool says that it is searching for problems, then after about a minute, says "Startup Repair could not detect a problem".

But, there's an option for "View diagnostic and repair details", so I click that. I figure that there HAS to be something useful in the log. Well, the log is detailed. It shows the primary disk in the system and the partition, along with the tests performed which include: disk, OS, registry, and other volume information. Then at the bottom it says "Root cause found: Unspecified changes to system configuration might have caused the problem. Repair action: System files integrity check and repair. Result: Failed. Error code = 0x490. Time taken = 784575 ms." So, why can't the repair tools, actually repair something? Can't system files be copied from the source DVD and restored, without doing a full re-installation? Apparently not.

So, back to the main menu we go, and this time "System Restore" is tried. I click next and select the restore point from 6 days ago. A prompt came up, "Once started, the system restore cannot be interrupted. Do you want to continue?", and I select Yes. Immediately the main menu comes back up and a message pops up saying "Restoring files". After a couple of minutes of churning, the error comes up "System Restore did not complete successfully. Your computer's system files and settings were not changed. Details: An unspecified error occurred during System Restore. (0x800700b7)". Click "Close" and the system reboots itself. A minor annoyance, I just have to boot back into the recovery tools. Two other restore points were tried and the same error resulted.

So, after about an hour of messing around with a single PC, we are in the same boat and nothing accomplished. No cause has been found for this latest round of corruption and boot problems. This time as I mentioned above, is better spent re-imaging a new system. For those who say that Windows 7 has superior stability or is miles above XP, are only kidding themselves. Even after a year of deploying Windows 7 over XP, there is still little return on investment seen. In fact, I think there is still a deficit because of the resources used not only for troubleshooting ongoing Windows 7 problems, but for testing and re-purchasing incompatible applications.

In comparison, GNU/Linux has similar repair software that is used by booting the repair DVD for the distribution. It scans the installed packages and repairs as necessary. Since the Linux boot sequence is far less complex than Windows, the kernel can at least boot and get the user to a command prompt (in case X11 can't start), allowing for further troubleshooting of log files. Fortunately, I haven't needed to run a repair like this for GNU/Linux in a long long time. Corruption and repairs just aren't needed like they are in Windows. But, I'm guessing the latest GNU/Linux repair DVDs are very efficient at fixing issues, if any do come up. GNU/Linux keeps most everything at the filesystem level, and uses a very stable filesystem on top of that (EXT3/EXT4 commonly) which overall provides top notch stability as GNU/Linux is already well known for.

Benefits Of Window Repairs To Your Home

There is more to having windows in your home than simply looking good. The appearance of your windows is important, given that they can make your home look very well and can add to its marketability should you ever decide to sell.

However your windows have to perform properly otherwise they will be costing you money. Properly insulated windows allow light into the property but do not allow heat that has been built up in the home to escape. Given that it costs a lot to heat a room, it is imperative that this heat is not lost through badly insulated windows or doors.

If your windows are showing signs of wear and tear it might be wise to consider window repairs or even replacement. This may involve simply window glass repair - that being the removal of your existing glazing and the installation of a more specialist glass that will conform better to your individual needs.

An example of this would be to install tinted glass. This would cut down the glare in your home and if you have a room in your home that suffers from the suns glare this could be an attractive option for you to consider.

A more expensive option is the removal of the entire window unit and its replacement with a more energy efficient window unit such as a uPVC double glazed window.

Some homeowners shy away from such an action as they consider the purchase cost of these windows to be excessive. However what they do not realize is that their existing windows are costing them money. Inefficient windows cause the homeowner to have to spend more and more on heating fuels in order to maintain the temperature of the room in the winter.

Not only do draught-free windows cost less but they create a more comfortable home. This cost saving applies to the summertime as well as to the colder months, as trying to keep a home cool by using air conditioning can also be a costly business.

Right-click the item again, then click "Set as Default Device."

Advantages of Windows 7 Over Windows Vista

Almost all software critics in the world agree that Windows Vista was the most disappointing Operating System (OS) ever built by Microsoft. Microsoft who had held its rank in the market for developing Operating Systems for PCs and laptops fell down miserably with Vista. This downfall was very advantageous for its rival companies and most of them gathered a huge market share. However, their joy was short lived as Microsoft release Windows 7 on 22nd July 2009 exactly 3 years after Vista. Within a span of months, Windows 7 again made Microsoft the world leader in manufacturing operating systems for PCs and laptops.

Benefits of Windows 7 Over Vista

Many people didn't shift from XP to Vista when it was launched because the latter had received very negative reviews. People who bought new machines during that timeline had to operate on Vista as it was pre-installed. Vista users were unhappy and Microsoft was losing its loyal fan-base. While many software programmers claim that there's not much difference between Vista and Windows 7, still more and more people are moving away from Vista and buying Windows 7. So let's understand what makes Windows 7 a better option than Vista by knowing some advantages of Windows 7 over Windows Vista.

Speed
Nowadays it's been said that the recent operating systems of Microsoft were not that effective and fast running. This statement was proved right with the introduction of Windows Vista. However, since the launch of Windows 7 positive changes have occurred and various tests have proved that it is much more faster, safer and effective than all the previous versions of Windows.

User friendly Security
Even though better security was one of the shining points for Vista many people didn't appreciate the overprotective User Account Control (UAC) which came with it. The program used to constantly pop as a warning sign even when users were navigating inside their own machine. It actually drove many users nuts due to its constant interfering. The new UAC of Windows 7 is much more relaxed and user friendly. This doesn't mean that Windows 7 didn't give the necessary priority to security measures but it gave users different options regarding its behavior.

Usage of Graphic Cards More Easy
When people moved to Vista from XP they were shocked to see that the former didn't support graphic cards from different vendors. This meant that Vista will support graphic cards manufactured from only one vendor. Users were not happy and this change was not welcome with positive reviews especially from hardcore gamers. Windows 7 on the other hand offered support for heterogeneous graphic cards from different vendors.

Less Boot Time
Another common grievance that users had with Vista was the huge amount of time it used to take to boot up. People who turn their PCs off every night would be waiting around forever so that their systems start up in the morning. This was very annoying for Vista users. However, Windows 7 is a much faster system and according to many people it boots itself in less than a minute.

Networking More Simple
Most home users won't be having a clue on how Windows 7 has made networking easy. Windows 7 comes with a new feature called the HomeGroup which allows the user on a network to share music, files, printers and various other things very easily. Thanks to the HomeGroup users can search various files as they were stored in their own machine. Windows 7 makes the job of connecting the machine to a wireless network very easy, all the user has to do is to click on the Wi-Fi button and select a network from the given list and then access it.

Security Updates are Grouped
In Vista there were many security related icons in the system tray and users use to view notifications from every icon. To make the necessary changes users would have to open several applications and it would all become a huge mess. This is not the case in Windows 7. All the security updates have been grouped into one icon and when the user clicks it he/she views all the notifications related to security.

Basic Features
Windows 7 has also come with up more advanced versions of Paint and WordPad. It has also improved the Voice Recognition feature which is present in the Microsoft Office. Sticky Notes also have some additional features such as changing colors of fonts and backgrounds.

Hope the above given points are enough to make the user understand why Windows 7 is preferred over Windows Vista. Windows 7 is available in six different editions; Starter, Home Basic, Home Premium, Professional, Enterprise and Ultimate to cater to the needs of people coming from all walks of life.

Handy Windows 7's utilities you may not know about

Many PC users love to tinker with the hardware and software on their machines. Other people consider any time they spend using Windows' built-in system tools a total waste. In between are those of us who understand the value of a little preventive maintenance--as long as it doesn't take all day.

Windows 7's arsenal of maintenance and system-tweaking utilities has been enhanced through the addition of new tools and improvements to existing programs. Unfortunately, one of my favorite Windows utilities isn't available in the Home Premium version of Windows 7: the Group Policy Editor (gpedit.msc) is included only in Windows 7 Professional, Ultimate, and Enterprise. (Vista Home versions also lack Group Policy Editor.)

You can download a spreadsheet from the Microsoft Download Center that lists the Registry key values for each setting that can be changed via the Group Policy Editor. Editing the Registry manually is less elegant and potentially more dangerous than Group Policy Editor's automatic approach.

I came up empty on my first attempt to make a Group Policy Editor-type change (adding a Web search box to the Start menu) by creating a Registry key based on the spreadsheet's instructions. However, I was able to find a simple workaround that achieved the same goal, as I describe below.

Be ready for trouble by creating a repair CD
In the two-and-a-half years I've been using Windows 7 on three different PCs, I'm convinced I spend less time on system maintenance and repair than I did when using Vista and XP. That doesn't mean there's not trouble on the horizon, though. Windows 7 lets you create a system-repair disc that replaces missing or damaged files in an existing installation.

Note that a system-repair disc is not a System Restore backup. To create a restore point (which backs up your Registry and other system settings), follow the instructions on Microsoft's Help & How-to site. The site also describes all your Windows 7 system-recovery options.

Windows 7 Create system repair disc wizard

Windows 7's "create system repair disc" wizard pops up an alert to let you know your system-repair disc is ready to use. (The disc was created in Windows 7 despite the message's reference to Windows Vista.)

To burn a system-repair disc, press the Windows key, type "backup and restore," and press Enter. Click "Create a system repair disc" in the left pane, select an optical drive, insert a blank disc, and click "Create disc." When the repair disc is ready, a message appears indicating that the disc can be used to access system recovery options.

There are a couple of caveats, however. First, the version of System Restore used by the system-repair disc lacks an undo feature, so there's no going back if you use the disc to enable a restore point. Second, the System Image Recovery option works only if you've used Win7's backup program to create a separate system-image disc. Andy Rathbone compares System Repair and System Recovery discs on his Windows blog.

View your PC's performance and reliability report card

Now and then you may notice a hitch in your system's giddyup. It may be nothing major--just a bit of hesitation or an unexpected pause as the machine opens a program or performs some other routine operation. The Performance Monitor and Reliability Monitor tools in Windows 7 give you an up-close look at the past and current state of your system.

To open the Performance Monitor, press the Windows key, type "performance monitor," and press Enter. A System Summary appears on the Performance Overview screen. Click Open Resource Monitor under the overview in the right pane to see graphs of your CPU, disk, network, and memory performance along with statistics for each app currently running.

Windows 7 Resource Monitor

The Resource Monitor in Windows 7's Performance Monitor applet provides a snapshot of your PC's CPU, disc, memory, and network performance.

Click Performance Monitor under Monitoring Tools in the left pane to view a graph showing the percentage of your CPU in use second by second. If something looks fishy, take a closer look by opening Win7's Event Viewer: press the Windows key, type "event viewer," and press Enter.

Click the categories under Windows Logs in the left pane and select an Error or Information entry in the main window to see more information about the event. Click Event Log Online Help to open a page on Microsoft's site that may provide more details on the event.

Windows 7 Event Viewer

The Event Viewer in Windows 7 provides more details about recent system events logged by the OS.

It's easy to get lost in the numbers, graphs, and obscure entries in the Performance Monitor and Event Viewer. You get a more palatable view of the same data in Windows 7's Reliability Monitor. To open the utility, press the Windows key, type "reliability monitor," and press Enter. (Are you seeing a pattern in these how-to-open instructions?)

Your system's history of problems and noteworthy events are graphed by the day or week: icons indicate critical errors, warnings, and informational events. Click an entry to view more information about it and links to a possible solution or technical details.

Windows 7 Reliability Monitor

The Reliability Monitor in Windows 7 lists important system events logged by the system each day or week.

Links at the bottom of the main Reliability Monitor window let you export a reliability report, review all problem reports, or check for solutions to all reported problems. I'm not sure I favor the one-fell-swoop approach because if one of the fixes introduces a new glitch, it might be difficult to roll the system back or to determine which patch caused the problem.

Search the Web from the Start menu
One of the most useful options in the Group Policy Editor is the ability to add a Web search box to the Start menu. The How-To Geek provides step-by-step instructions for using Group Policy Editor to put an Internet search field on the menu.

Win7 Home Premium users can get much the same effect by adding an Address box to the taskbar: right-click the taskbar and choose Toolbars > Address. Then simply enter your search term in the box and press Enter to open your default browser with a page of results from your default search engine.

The Address box can put a serious dent in an already-crowded taskbar, but you can save space by using small icons and grouping them: right-click the Start button, choose Properties > Taskbar, and make the required changes to clear some taskbar space.

Choose the type that's right for you
Eyestrain sneaks up on computer users. One way to prevent eye fatigue on LCDs and other flat-panel displays is by enabling Microsoft's ClearType technology. Press the Windows key, type "clear type tuner," and press enter. A wizard opens describing the technology. With the Turn on ClearType option checked, press Next.

The wizard will verify that your screen is set to its optimum resolution and then will display several text samples. Choose the one that looks best to you and press Next again.

Windows 7 Clear Type Tuner utility

The Clear Type Tuner utility in Windows 7 lets you choose the type that displays best on your monitor.

Clear Type Tuner is also available as a free download for Vista and Windows XP; the program installs as a Control Panel applet. You may not notice an immediate improvement in the quality of the text on your screen, but any opportunity to reduce your risk of PC-related health problems is worth taking.

How to Use the Windows Help Feature

If you use the Windows application you will eventually come across a time when you need help to solve a problem or learn a feature you do not fully understand. Therefore, when you find yourself in this situation you can go to the help section to find the answer to your question. With the Help menu you can browse by topic to enable you to narrow down your search.

Try the following steps

Step One
Begin by clicking on Start - Help and Support to access the Windows Help and Support section.

Step Two
Use your mouse to click on the Browse Help icon. You will be able to see this as it is located on the upper right hand corner. You can also select the Table of Contents icon. When you click this icon a vertical list of help topics will appear. The first topic usually is 'Getting started'.

Step Three
Look through the list of topics and select one. When you click on the selected link a list of subtopics will appear. You can identify this by a blue box that appears at the left of the topic. This informs you that extra subtopics are available.

Step Four
Choose a subtopic and click on it. As you are reading through the information related to the subtopic you will find blue links. When you click on these blue links they will lead you to other related topics to the subtopic you originally accessed. As well as the blue links you may notice green links. These green links when clicked on will for example, open up a dialogue box that will assist in you in finishing a certain job.

Step Five
After you have read through a topic you can click close and exit.

If you cannot find an answer from any of the table of contents then you can use the search feature to help you narrow down your search to find what you are looking for. All you do is type in the key word that is related to your query. When you have entered the keyword the top related searches will appear. Choose the one that is most related to your query. Click on the link and this will take you to articles based on the chosen link.

How to Install IIS in Windows 7

Windows 7, the latest avatar of the Windows operating system from Microsoft, comes bundled with upgrades for many useful features of the operating system. One of these is the IIS 7, which has got some additional features other than the IIS 7 bundled with Windows Vista. You will need to install IIS 7, especially if you wish to work with ASP .NET in Windows 7, or wish to do some web development with Adobe Dreamweaver.

Here is how you can install IIS in Windows 7:

1. Click on Start button, and then select the option Control Panel.

2. Click on the link named "Turn Windows features on or off".

3. In the next window that opens up, you will see a host of options with checkboxes beside these. Checking the boxes fills those with blue color, and turns the corresponding features on, while removing the checks turns those off.

4. Click on the item named "Internet Information Services" to expand the corresponding node. Be sure to check the box beside the item.

5. Now under the node, look for the services you would need for development in ASP .NET. Check all that you think may apply to your field of work. Checking the box for Internet Information Services does not turn on all the services under it, so you will have to do that manually, one at a time.

6. Once you are done, click on OK.

7. You will see a message box with a progress bar, indicating that the changes you made are being applied to the operating system. Do not interrupt the process, or some of the necessary files may get corrupted. Once all the changes have been applied, the progress bar will disappear automatically.

8. Now, open your web browser.

9. Type http://localhost in the address bar and press Enter.

10. You will now be able to see the new local host page in IIS 7, with the word "Welcome" written in it in many languages.

LG Launches Windows 7 Tablet in Korea

LG has launched a Windows 7-based tablet computer for the Korean market, named the E-Note H1000B.

The tablet features a 10.1-inch capacitive touchsreen, an Intel Atom Z510 or Z530 CPU, 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of SSD storage, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, an SD card reader and two USB 2.0 slots. Interestingly enough, it comes with the severely limited Windows 7 Starter Edition and it has no camera, which is the distinguishing feature of most tablets in the post-iPad era.

The slightly lackluster specifications of this tablet won’t send anyone into ecstasy, and neither will the price of about $850. However, LG also plans to launch an Android tablet soon, which will hopefully be more of an iPad competitor than the E-Note H1000B.
